not very good shots as the sun was shining through the window when I took these shots of the great tits fledging.I counted four but feel I hadn't seen the beginning of the exodus.
denis, they flew different ways but not very far,one went into the next hawthorn tree, one into a bush near the nest and I didn't see the others.I have seen the adult come back to the suet block and watched it fly around the side of the house so looks like they are well away from the box.Typical, you feed them all year and they take their babies somewher you cant watch.lol Sheila
Hi Sheila. What great timing.I also always miss it too. It must give you such satifaction to see them grow up and leave. Hopefully the young ones will hang around your garden or feeders with their parents.
Absolutely lovely pics Sheila. How fantastic to see that happen in front of you! Bet you're chuffed to bits!Im sure they will come and feed in your garden!x
ken and karen hope your right and I will see them feed, they must be near as the adults are coming to bathe and get the suet block(whats left after the damn starlings have finished)
Great photos Sheila and well done on capturing the moment, I can imagine what a thrill that must have been for you, so touching to see their sweet little faces looking with awe at the big wide world for the first time!
Oh WOW my friend just look at the little mouth, I still reckon you've had some lessons with that darned camera, my £500+ job just doesn't give me anything like these spectacular results (can't possibly be the photographer now can it - LOL) Well done Sheila Jayne
thanks everyone.Steve ALL babies are cute.Jayne don't forget I am sitting just about 20/25feet away from the box hence clearer shots, can't fail really. Sheila
For all who have lost.
GODS LENT CHILD by Sue Coad
I'll lend you for a little while a child of mine God said, for you to love thee while he lives and mourn for when he's dead.It may be six or seven years of forty-two or three, but will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you,and should his stay be brief, you'll always have his memories as solace in your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return, but there are lessons taught below I want this child to learn.
I've looked the whole world over in my search for teachers true, and of all the folk that crowd life's lane I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love and not think the labour vain nor hate me when I come to take this lent child back again.
I fancy that I heard them say "Dear God Thy Will Be Done"For all the joys this child will bring, the risk of grief we'll run.
We will shelter him with tenderness,we'll love him while we may and for all the happiness we've known,we'll ever-grateful stay.
But should the Angels call him much sooner than we'd planned,we will brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand.

thanks Warren. It's the first time I have ever managed to see it in all the years I have had nest boxes in my garden.

Excellent timing in being able to see this. Lovely shots of the moment :-D
Only just spotted this, Sheila, I think great tit fledglings look comical rather than cute :)
