delighted to see this brambling around my stream today it was with a chaffinch and that gave me a better idea of the differences.

Oh Sheila you are lucky and such lovely photos too. I may have already mentioned this but we had lots of Bramblings last Winter along with a few Siskins but of course I didn't have a decent camera then. This year, no visits at all.

thanks shysongbird,I have been really lucky that when I decided to get a decent camera and joined GBS I learned what foods birds like and it has all just come together.
thanks for your comment denis it is a really lovely bird,one of the other shots I have of it shows what a fluffy head it has looks like a russian hat

Lucky you Sheila, I've never seen a Brambling. It's not easy to catch birds that are just passing through as they don't hang around too long unless the weather's bad.
