After visiting Dilston Castle and Abbey in Northumberland we walked down the long carriageway(now being excavated by the archeaologist) to Lords Bridge and Devils Water. The Heritage Trust have built a bird hide, not the best design, overlooking the river and there were two empty broken feeders sadly hanging on a sad looking sapling.Needless to say very little bird activity although we were amazed to see a bat flying fast over the river skimming the surface now and again to feed.I have e-mailed bat conservation for advice on what kind this could have been.I have also become a friend of Historic Dilston and have taken some new feeders up and hope to help to improve the facility and encourage birds to feed. Hope by the winter it is a little busier with our help

Hi Sheila.
You have taken a lovely set of photo's. I especially like the one of the Lords Bridge over the Devils Water.I can just picture myself standing on that bridge watching the river flow by.
